- Abstract
The article discusses 18th- and 19th-century English drawing and etching artist Samuel Howitt, who depicted sporting and wildlife scenes. The author describes Howitt's serious depiction of shooting, fishing, and hunting scenes and suggests that he was influenced by artist Thomas Rowlandson. Other topics include Howitt's input in the "Giles Grinagain" series of etchings, Howitt's family life and marriage, Howitt's cousin artist Thomas Williamson, and Howitt's wildlife and natural history prints.
