"The consequences would certainly be fatal": Voting Rights and the French Army 1920-1928.
- Authors
Orr, Andrew
- Abstract
The article examines debates over voting rights for French men completing their term of universal military service during the 1920s. According to the author, competition between the Socialist and Communist parties brought the issue into public consciousness, in turn causing French generals to reveal their skeptical attitudes towards the Third Republic. Topics discussed include the 1925-1926 Rif War and propaganda.
