- Abstract
An estimated 300 million people worldwide are heterozygous for the mutation that results in sickle cell anaemia (SCA), and are said to have sickle cell trait (SCT). Isolated segments of the aortae and femoral arteries (but not mesenteric arteries) from SCT mice exhibited exaggerated contractile responses to Phe (Fig 1A). SNP-mediated relaxation was exaggerated in both the mesenteric and femoral arteries of the SCT mice (Fig 1C).
