- Abstract
The article describes the effects of selective cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX-2) inhibitor, celecoxib, on the healing of both ileal and colonic anastomosis. Selective COX-2 inhibitors are prescribed for analgesia and considered safer than non-selective non-steroidal anti-inflamatory drugs. Furthermore COX-2 inhibitors are being prescribed in the perioperative period, both as analgesics and for cancer treatment.
