- Authors
Hulse, Kate
- Abstract
This article discusses the consequences of implementing minimum surgeon volumes (MSVs) in the field of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery. The article highlights the relationship between higher surgeon volume and better patient outcomes in thyroid and parathyroid surgery. It also addresses the potential impact of MSVs on clinicians and services, including the redistribution of caseloads and the limitation of certain procedures. The article raises concerns about the under-representation of female surgeons in the private sector and the potential discrimination that may occur with the enforcement of MSVs. The author emphasizes the need for healthcare organizations to consider the impact on service provision and training, ensuring equal opportunities for all surgeons and trainees.
