- Title
Should 24-h Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Be Done in Every Patient With Diabetes?
- Authors
Parati, Gianfranco; Bilo, Grzegorz
- Abstract
The article discusses whether every patient with diabetes should be subjected to 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring (ABPM). It mentions that ABPM tends to be used in classifying cardiovascular risk associated with elevated blood pressure (BP) in diabetic patients. Several advantages of ABPM to diabetic patients are cited including reproducibility of BP values and absence of a white-coat effect. It also examines the limitations of ABPM use in diabetes, one of which is the lack of disclosure from manufacturers about BP determination algorithms.
