The article focuses on a study by B. Lake and colleagues which reported the first observation of a crossover between confined and de-confined spinon excitations. This crossover happened by changing the energy scale in inelastic neutron scattering experiments on a quantum magnet. In this study, asymptotically free spinons were observed at high energy transfers and bound states of spinons at lower energies.
