- Title
Channelrhodopsin engineering and exploration of new optogenetic tools.
- Authors
Hegemann, Peter; Möglich, Andreas
- Abstract
In this article, the authors discuss several methods of channelrhodopsin engineering and its importance in optogenetics. They suggest channelrhodopsin engineering from microalgae and eubacteria for manipulating the function of neurons and other cells. They stresses that to improve conductance of channelrhodopsins, their pore must be modified until the cations pass through it more efficiently to decrease ion selectivity of the channel and improve its conductance.
