- Abstract
Introduction: Oral sub mucous fibrosis (OSMF) is a chronic, insidious, disabling that affects oral cavity and may be associated with vesicle formation. OSMF is a disease of multifactorial etiology. The awareness of such a condition among dentists can help in timely diagnosis and conservative management along with oral physiotherapy can help improve the mouth opening. The present case report describes a case of OSMF in 11-year-old patient. Case report: An 11 years old patient reported to the Department of Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry with the chief complaint of reduced mouth opening, burning sensation during consumption of hot and spicy food. There was history of betel nut chewing since 2 years with a frequency of 2-3 sachets. Patient had reduced cheek blowing capacity and restricted mouth opening. Intraoral examination revealed palpable fibrous bands over labial and buccal mucosa. In this case treatment plan was made which included counseling, medication like Vitamin B complex capsules, antioxidants and iron supplements along with mouth opening exercises was taught to patient and parents. Clinical Significance: Rare case showing oral submucous fibrosis in younger child residing in rural area.
