- Title
Ontario: An Introduction.
- Authors
Lederman, Anne
- Abstract
The article discusses the origin of fiddle music in Ontario, Canada. It points out that historical evidence of fiddling in Ontario comes from diaries and travellers accounts of the 1800s. It cites the radio which changed fiddling when George Wade and His Cornhuskers went on the airwaves in 1928. In early 1940's, Don Messer and his Islanders was brought on National Radio while bands travelled the province playing dances. It cites the smooth, blended style of fiddling which became the basis of the "Old-Time" or "Down-East" style preferred by most players.
