- Abstract
Objective: starting from reflection that highlights the importance of secondary technical-professionals' training in health/nursing, express the need for a teacher training policy for professional education, including the health area, in view of its implications for the support of the Unified Health System as a public policy. Method: reflexive study. Results: relations and contrapositions are established between the current training context of secondary-level technical professionals in nursing and the construction of the Unified Health System. In addition, we discuss that the historical conformation of professional education in Brazil marks frailties in teacher training, entailing the need for a teacher training policy for this educational modality, including the health/nursing area. Conclusion: single proposals are not appropriate, neither for nursing nor for the other health areas, but some political-legal understandings about the field of teacher training in professional education are fundamental. The challenge is to structure a policy that considers teaching in the ethical-political dimension and the concrete conditions of the teacher's work.
