- Abstract
The article discusses a contemporary adaptation of Bertolt Brecht's adaptation of Lenz's play "Der Hofmeister" in Indiana, USA. The adaptation, called Bertolt Brecht Bloomington Karaoke Theater (BBBKT), was performed at Indiana University Bloomington and explored themes of labor devaluation and the growing responsibilities of educators. The performance was a collaborative effort involving students, faculty, and community members, and it fostered a sense of community and dialogue. The article also highlights the relevance of the play's question about the value of education for graduate students at Indiana University who have been advocating for union recognition. Overall, the performance demonstrated the power of art to create a community and initiate conversations on college campuses.
