- Abstract
The article cites a study by researchers J. A. Thompson and R. A. Oliveira and their colleagues on the use of quorum sensing signals to modulate the bacterial composition of the mouse gut after the administration of antibiotics. The study found that the manipulation of the quorum sensing signalling molecule autoinducer 2 (AI-2) can affect the growth of antibiotic-treated gut microbiota. The potential of the Firmicutes and Bacteroidetes phyla to produce AI-2 were examined by the researchers
