- Abstract
The article presents a study which focuses on the evolutionary history of powdery mildew Blumeria graminis (B. graminis), particularly on the arms race of the fungal pathogen in wheat and barley. It reveals the genetic adaptability and flexibility of B. graminis which enables the fungus to penetrate its host and overcome host defences. Results suggests that B. graminis and its population have maintained a level of genetic variation trough clonal propagation and infrequent sexual reproduction.
