- Title
The Moveable Typewriter.
- Authors
MULLANEY, THOMAS S.
- Abstract
The article discusses Chinese technolinguistic experimentation in the Maoist or early Communist period, focusing on an innovation that rearranged Chinese characters on typewriters into natural-language clusters to enhance adjacency and proximity of characters found next to each other in writing. It comments on the development of moveable-type printing and typewriting and reflects on the linguistic technology known as "predictive text." The author also addresses human-machine relations in Chinese typing schools.
