- Abstract
The external beam radiation for malignancies may cause inflammation and fibrosis in adjacent large arteries and lead to clinically significant stenosis, thrombosis or aneurysm formation. The prevalence of stenosis following radiotherapy can be as high as 30% in specific arterial beds. Radiation-related arteritis has been described in carotid arteries, renal arteries and iliac arteries following radiotherapy for malignant tumors or lymphomas. Unfortunately, only case studies have been published on the treatment of the radiation arteritis reporting good results from endovascular treatment. We present a rare case of iliac thrombosis, complicated with ischemic lesions of the forefoot, due to radiation-related arteritis.
