- Abstract
The article presents a study which measured the treatment outcomes of emotionally disturbed adolescents using the Massachusetts Adolescents Level of Functioning Scale (MALFS). The reduction of allocations for social services further demands that programs provide maximum benefits from agency resources. Measurement of treatment outcomes can assist programs in responding to these demands by providing a framework for setting treatment objectives and by monitoring the effectiveness of interventions. Clients are rated at intake, at clinical review which takes place at least once per month, at discharge and in a follow-up by all staff involved in treatment. A consensus rating is recorded arid the information generated by the discussion is linked directly to treatment planning. Clinicians when rating clients are asked to consider the following age, previous level of functioning, role expectations, and local mores. This new scale, the Massachusetts Adolescent Level of Functioning Scale (MALOF), has been specifically adapted for use. In mental health programs serving severely disturbed youth.
