- Title
Giant Moa.
- Abstract
The article provides information on the first DNA-based reconstruction of the giant moa bird performed by scientists with the use of prehistoric feathers retrieved from caves and rocks in New Zealand. Four different moa species were identified by the researchers from the University of Adelaide and Landcare Research after retrieving ancient DNA from moa feathers which considered to be at least 2,500 years ld. Nicolas Rawlence, student from the University's Australian Centre for Ancient DNA, states that with the use of ancient DNA, scientists were able to connect moa feathers to four different species.
