- Abstract
The article considers the 1932 centennial celebration of the city of LaPorte in Indiana as a case study of the ways in which Americans utilized their community heritage to address the crisis of the Depression on the eve of the New Deal. A description of the city in the early 1930s is presented. Topics discussed include the contested aspect of the centennial celebration, the construction of a log cabin in downtown LaPorte and a presentation of a historical pageant.
