The article comments on some of the most cited articles published in this journal between 2006 and 2007. The authors mention two articles, written by P.J. O'Brien and colleagues and a review by Helmut Greim and colleagues. According to them, the articles demonstrate the important aspects of the current debate about replacement of in vivo studies by in vitro tests. O'Brien studied 243 compounds with various degree of toxicity.
