- Abstract
In order to understand the influence of plant roots to the stability of the shallow slope, the shear strength index of the root-soil complex was obtained through the laboratory shear test. The infinite slope theory was adopted to analyze the influence of water content, root content and slope on the stability of the shallow slope considering whether the plant roots passed through the sliding surface. The results show that when the roots do not cross the sliding surface, they have little influence to the slope stability. When the roots cross the critical slip surface, they can improve the shear strength of soil mass, thereby enhancing the stability of the slope and the slope stability coefficient has an increase. The stability coefficient has the maximum increase when the moisture content is 16%. When the moisture content is 18%, the stability coefficient has the minimum increase. In conclusion, the design of vegetation slope protection engineering should aim at the optimum moisture content in order to meet the stability requirements and promote the growth of plants.
