- Abstract
Introduction: Launois-Bensaude syndrome (benign symmetric lipomatosis or Madelung’s syndrome) was first described in the mid 19th century. This condition is characterized by the formation of non-encapsulated adipose tissue in different areas of the body. Case report: A 56-year-old male patient with black skin and a history of chronic alcoholism, with approximately 35 years of evolution. He showed a marked increase in volume in the posterior and lateral cervical regions, non-painful, nonmovable, of gummy consistency. He attended the Surgery Consultation of the Martires del 9 Abril Hospital. In the operating room, the masses of the posterior and lateral neck region were removed. Due to the reappearance of the increase in volume, he attended the Internal Medicine Consultation. Conclusions: There is no report of any case in which spontaneous regression has been observed, so the only effective treatment is surgical excision or liposuction.
