- Abstract
Excessive consumption is an environmental challenge and directly impacts the future survival of the planet. Because of that, society is going to more sustainable consumption and more conscious disposal. This article intends to understand if the São Paulo citizen is environmentally conscious and treats their domestic waste in a sustainable way. The objective is to understand the knowledge of São Paulo citizens about the concepts of recycling, sustainability and conscious disposal of their household waste, to verify their treatment habits and possible motivations and incentives for new sustainable practices. Descriptive research was carried out, through a questionnaire sent over the internet, to 97 respondents, which demonstrated that the São Paulo citizens are aware of the need to have a more sustainable action, however they need more incentives and information on the topic. The research shows that convenience and difficulty in changing individual and family habits are limiting to an environmentally responsible behavior. This research can contribute to understand the sustainable attitudes of the São Paulo citizens and their deficiencies so that companies and the public power can direct awareness actions.
