- Abstract
Objective: To reflect, in the light of Critical Thinking, from the report of a clinical case of pressure injuries resulting from surgical positioning, about interventions for its prevention and about the limits of avoidability of the adverse event. Method: Study of a case of pressure injuries resulting from surgical positioning that occurred in a university hospital in Northeast Brazil, in March 2021. Guiding questions were used to stimulate Critical Thinking skills. Results: The patient had 22 points on the Injury Risk Assessment Scale resulting from Surgical Positioning, corresponding to high risk. After 16:50 of surgery, he presented five pressure injuries. Conclusion: It was evidenced that, with prevention failures, the confluence of avoidable and non-preventable injury risk factors was decisive for the development of injuries. It is not possible to assure that injuries could not have been avoided when there are failures in prevention.
