- Abstract
This article discusses the book "Goodyear Invades the Backcountry: The Corporate Takeover of a Rural Town," by Bryan D. Palmer. The book examines the establishment of a Goodyear Tire and Rubber Corp. plant in the small town of Napanee, Ontario, in the late 1980s. It reviews the history of the company and the community before their interaction in the late 1980s. It also discusses Goodyear's clandestine reconnaissance of Napanee's local human and geographic terrain in 1987 and its elaborately constructed and concealed property negotiations.
