- Abstract
An array of high-resolution methods were used to demonstrate that nanopowder particles produced by milling of natural diamond are primarily of a platelet shape and have a more significant size range than do detonation nanodiamonds, the majority of which are close in size and isometric. Just as detonation nanodiamonds do, the primary particles of the nanopowder prepared by milling consist of diamond cores with cubic lattices and complex shells formed by sp2 carbon atoms and impurities. The interatomic distances in nanodisperse diamond crystals were found to be significantly larger than those in bulk diamond crystals.
