- Abstract
The article presents the text of a speech by Thomas R. Phillips, a partner at law firm Baker Botts LLP, delivered at the Twenty-Seventh Annual National Federalist Society Student Symposium held at the University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor in 2009, in which he discussed the advantages of choosing U.S. judges based on their merits over the contested judicial elections, developments in judicial selection methods and the challenge posed by such changes to judicial independence.
