- Abstract
Mary Lum's exhibition, "Temporary Arrangements," showcases fifteen acrylic-on-paper and mixed-media collages that incorporate various art historic devices such as décollage, asemic writing, and post-painterly abstraction. Lum's works draw inspiration from modernist influences like Aleksandr Rodchenko, Vladimir Mayakovsky, Ellsworth Kelly, and Kurt Schwitters, but they do not adhere to a single unifying orientation or normative model of modernism. Instead, Lum's art practice embraces the collapse of meta-narratives and embraces radical pluralism. Her compositions flatten and combine elements from different genres and styles, creating artworks that are both new and insightful in their engagement with history.
