- Abstract
The article explores the history of conflicts related to recreational and commercial fishing in New York, one of the major reasons behind conflicts during the nineteenth century. Topics discussed include troubles arising from city dwellers coming into fishing community Jamaica Bay for recreational fishing, the growth of Jamaica Bay's tourism industry after the construction of the first railroad and protection of Jamaica Bay including regulatory efforts.
