- Title

- Authors
Casey, Janet Galligani
- Abstract
The article explores on teaching American Literature in a market setting. The author mentions that the students are very eager to learn the context of literature that focuses on the socioeconomic conditions. In response the author has developed an advanced course that gives attention to aspects of literary history. He stresses that the students have less exposure to a market-based understanding of literary history which he considers as one of his hurdles in broadening their knowledge. He cites that the students are aware that the canon wars are means to correct some prejudices in studying literature. Moreover, the author wants to emphasize the importance of books for the students to deepen their understanding how class issues inform both their studies and their lives.
