- Abstract
The Jatropha has been seen as one of the alternatives for the substitution of petroleum derivatives, but, to meet the high demand for biodiesel, the plant needs to be fertilized satisfactorily to enable the expression of its full potential. However, there is little scientific information to support the optimal amounts of fertilization. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of organic and mineral fertilization under the variables Leaf area and Number of Jatropha seeds and to recommend the best dose for the oilseed. The experiment with 64 plants was conducted at the Federal University of Campina Grande, PB, Brazil, arranged in drainage lysimeters and in the open air. The experimental design was a randomized block design with a 4 x 4 factorial combination (0. 4. 6 and 8 t ha-1 of tanned bovine manure and 0. 90. 135 and 180 kg ha-1 of simple superphosphate). According to the results, only fertilization with bovine manure influenced the growth variable, being the dose of 5.20 t ha-1 responsible for the largest leaf area. Regarding the number of seeds, both phosphate and organic fertilization influenced it, with more satisfactory result when using the dose of 7.09 t ha-1 of bovine manure, which is the recommendation for use.
