- Abstract
Glioblastomamultiforme is a highly malignant neuroepithelial tumor which grows usually in the white matter of the brain hemispheres, with an average age of diagnosis at 45 years. Gliomas of the cerebral hemispheres are locally invasive tumors that extremely rarely grow and extend exophytically as an extra- axial lesion. We present the case of a 25- year old male who was admitted to the neurosurgery department with a two- month history of severe headaches located in the right temporal lobe. The patient had no other neurological deficit. The imaging exams revealed a malignant space- occupying lesion in the right temporal lobe. During the surgical resection, it was revealed as an extra- axial, exophytic mass which was infiltrating the surrounding structures, with a non well- defined transition zone. The histology examination was diagnostic of an astroglial neoplasm, grade IV. There are no reports in the international literature about exophytic malignant gliomas in young adults so far.
