- Abstract
The article reports on the significant increase of the DNA methylation in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome. It says that epigenetic aberrations are recognized as early events in the process of malignant transformation. It also says that gene specific hypermethylation occurs in the context of global hypomethylation. In addition, in patients with myelodysplastic syndrome, the induction of hypomethylation using DNA methyltransferase inhibitors leads to haematological improvement.
