- Abstract
The article explores how the critical review of Albert Erich Brinckmann's 1931 book "Theatrum novum Pedemontii," by art historian Giulio Carlo Argan influenced the scholarly reception of Piedmontese Baroque architecture. Topics discussed include the arguments raised by Argan regarding the way Brinckmann rendered the said architectural style, the historiography involving Baroque architecture in the 19th century, and the political orientation of Argan during his debate with Brinckmann.
