- Abstract
Temperatures in timber‐concrete composite structures in case of fire – test and simulation In addition to tabulated design data and simplified design methods, advanced design methods are increasingly being used in fire protection design. The latter enable a realistic calculation of structures in case of fire and are characterized by the flexibility of the calculated components. Therefore, they are seen as an alternative to costly fire tests. The calculations are usually carried out with finite element software as thermal or mechanical simulations. Thermal simulations are used to calculate the temperatures of any component or structure in case of fire. The calculated temperatures are highly influenced by the temperature‐dependent material properties used. For concrete and timber structures, Eurocode 2‐1‐2 and Eurocode 5‐1‐2 provide thermal material models, which represent the state of the art for the respective construction method. This paper investigates whether they can also be used to realistically calculate the temperatures in composite structures of cross laminated timber and concrete. For this purpose, calculated temperatures are compared to temperatures of fire tests. Besides material input parameters, software‐specific input parameters can influence the calculated temperatures. For this purpose, the influence of the numerical model and the boundary conditions of the simulation were investigated.
