The article presents Chapter XVII of the book "Year's Work in English Studies" which discusses the new English literatures. It mentions the English literatures in Africa such as the seminal essays "Shakespearean Imports: Whatever Happened to Caliban's Mother? Or the Problem with Othello's," by Lemuel Jackson and "Introduction: Africa, Diaspora and the Discourse of Modernity," by Simon Gikandi. It also highlights English writings in Australia such as the book "Writing on the Backs of the Blacks: Voice, Literacy and Community in Kriol Fieldwork," by Mari Rhydwen, the book "Pacific Writing and the Diminishing Islands," by Chris Tiffin in South Pacific, and the bibliography of "New Zealand," by John Thompson.
