- Abstract
The distribution of beds throughout Brazil respects the minimum limit considered adequate, however, the lack of beds is routine, especially in SUS, requiring greater efficiency in these sectors. In this context, mortality prediction scores were created, among them the SAPS. This is a retrospective cohort, with data from patients admitted to a general ICU. To assess SAPS III as a predictor of mortality, TMP, Oddis ratio, ROC curve and goodness of fit test were calculated. It is observed that the score underestimated mortality, however, it has a statistical correlation with the outcome of death. For admission diagnoses of cancer, thoracic surgery, hepatology and sepsis, the data point out a poor distinction between survivors and deaths and, except for the diagnoses of digestive surgery and infectious diseases, there was a good adjustment of the model under study. SAPS III proved to be a good predictor of global mortality, however, when assessed by admission diagnoses, the possibility of weaknesses was observed.
