To understand the perceptions of a hospital nursing team about the implementation of information technology in their work. The descriptive-exploratory study, of qualitative nature. It was carried out through two focus groups with 11 nursing professionals from a private hospital in the state of Paraná, Brazil. After transcription of the audio recorded material in the focus groups, the data were analyzed by the technique of content analysis. Three thematic categories emerged: Feelings before the implantation of informatics in the work; Challenges in the process of implementing computerization and; Reflections on the implementation of computerization on patient safety and quality of care. Still challenging and triggering feelings such as stress, fear, and overload, workers have endorsed the implementation of computerization in their work as a bridge to increases in quality and safety, especially aimed at drug administration, patient identification, secure communication, and patient participation in care.
