The Mycobacterium Tuberculosis - the causative agent of tuberculosis (TB) has a greater chance of developing in people who live in a situation of confinement situations, in prisons. This study was described as a cohort study. The Official Compulsory Notification Form was analyzed in the city of Campinas, SP in 2006, with a total of 45 prisoners. The variables were verified in the National System of Notifiable Diseases (SINAN). There was a predominance of males with 88.9%. The age group most affected by the disease was 30.1 ± 8.4 years. The pulmonary clinical form was predominant with 93.3%. Sputum smear and sputum culture was performed in 51.1% of cases. Among these, 43.5% were positive. Almost 50% did not take the Anti-HIV test. Of the patients who underwent the exam, 22.2% had AIDS comorbidity. The study proposes public health intervention and implementation measures in order to detect new cases and prevent the disease.
