We discover striking similarities between Conf. 9.11.28 and some Carmina Latina epigraphica in their topics, language and rhythm. The connection of this text with Conf. 1.13.21, both in the discussion of the two kinds of Platonic love and the allegori-cal tension with the Aeneid, reinforces our supposition that Conf. 9.11.28 contains an hexametric line.
