- Title
Bhī...ma and Hesiod's Succession Myth.
- Authors
Allen, Nicholas J.
- Abstract
The article presents a comparative study of the god Bhī...ma in the Indo-European narrative "Mahabharata" and of the Succession Myth in Hesiod's poem "Theogony," which tells the story of the three dominant Greek gods Ouranos, Kronos, and Zeus. Bhī...ma is the incarnation of Dyaus, who is etymologically cognate with Zeus. In his discussion, the author refers to a provisional five-generation Sanskrit schema which includes links among protonarrative figures.
