- Abstract
Introduction: Lifestyle-related diseases such as diabetes are steadily increasing worldwide. Sargassum wightii (brown algae), algal polysaccharides, attracted extensive interest to study their numerous biological activities. Therefore, in the current study, the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory and pancreatic lipase inhibitory activities of methanolic extract will be investigated using in vitro assays. Aim: This research is to study the α-glucosidase inhibitory and lipase inhibitory activities of S. wightii. Materials and Methods: The alpha-glucosidase and pancreatic lipase inhibitory activity of S. wightii was assayed using Acarbose and Orlistat as positive control. Results: S. wightii has both alpha-glucosidase inhibitory and lipase inhibitory activity. Conclusion: S. wightii can be used as an alternative with further research as it is a plant extract.
