- Abstract
Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the attitude and knowledge on oral hygiene measures among dwarfs. Introduction: Dwarf is a person with abnormally small stature due to a pathological condition, especially with disproportion or deformation of features and limbs. For various reasons, the oral health-care demand from the dwarf population is low and difficult to determine, whereas their oral hygiene status would need urgent care. Materials and Methods: A total of 30 dwarfs were selected from the rehabilitation centers, theme parks, and circus areas in and around Chennai. A questionnairebased study was conducted among 25-50 years old dwarfs during November 2017-January 2018. Results: The percentage of the dwarfs who brush only once in the morning and never use mouthwash after brushing is more (80%) than who brushes twice a day and 100% of them use toothpaste and brush and they never floss. Conclusion: The dwarfs had good knowledge on the basic oral health measures which is enough to maintain proper oral health, but their practices and attitude toward oral health were relatively poor.
