- Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of somatic cell count on the embryo quality in donor cows. The study was conducted in Hacıali farm of East Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute in Adana. In the experiment, a total of 30 Holstein cows were used. All donors had a regular oestrous cycle. According to their somatic cell counts, donor cows were divided into two groups. In the first group there were 15 cows with <268.000 cells/mL and in the second group, 15 cows with >268.000 cells/mL. According to the results somatic cell count did not affect transferable embryo number, non-transferable embryo number, total embryo number, percentage of transferable embryos and percentage of non-transferable embryos. In groups with high and low somatic cell counts, mean transferable embryo numbers were 2.86 and 3.33; total embryo numbers were 5.72 and 6.40; and percentages of transferable embryo were 51.68 and 56.09 %, respectively.
