- Abstract
The idea of gender division and disparities between men and women are obvious throughout the world. In every society, gender-based demarcation is evident, yet its extent fluctuates mainly within societies and across culture. In social context of Pakistan females are discriminated in many ways although, legally have eqdual rights. Therefore, there is need of hours to sensitize society on gender issues. Current study was conducted during 2019 at Department of Rural Sociology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad objectives of study were to explore the socio- cultural and economic hurdles faced by the women in rural areas of Punjab, Pakistan and understand constraints act as a hurdle in a way to gender sensitized society. The study area (Punjab) province has different regions i.e. Punjabi (Central), Saraiki (South), and Pothohar (North) and three districts selected from each region. A sample consisted of 450 respondents were choose through simple random sampling technique with equal proportion (150) from each region. The tool used for data collection was well structured interview schedule. The data analysis were done by using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The results revealed that in a society there are presences of many social, cultural and economic obstruction to gender sensitive society. However, changes are observable regarding women participation in different social and cultural actions. The recognition and documentation of women work in all walks of life, women education and advocacy for women rights are the major steps that the government should take to ensure women mainstreaming.
