- Title
Class-Consciousness and Self-Improvement in The King of Comedy.
- Authors
Librach, Ronald S.
- Abstract
The article focuses on the class-consciousness and self-improvement in the 1982 film "The King of Comedy," directed by Martin Scorsese. According to the author, Scorsese's experience with the movie brought him to the reality of his responsibilities as a filmmaker. With the creation of "The King of Comedy," the director realized the importance of Robert De Niro to his aspirations towards the success of the film. The author concludes that the reductio inherent in the film is cynical when it is seen as a sociopolitical metaphor and the film can be both socially trivial and personally redeeming.
