- Abstract
The article offers information on mastocytosis. It states that mast cells play a crucial part in defense against pathogens and it has an important immunoregulatory role in many processes such as wound healing, tumor control, and transplant tolerance. Researchers have linked the urticaria pigmentosa to cutaneous proliferation of mastocytes. It notes that patients with mastocytosis present a varying clinical manifestations and the disease should be diagnosed according to the accepted World Health Organization's (WHO) criteria. The requirements of WHO in diagnosing mastocytosis are also presented.
