- Abstract
In Graphic Design education, there is a need for different disciplinary resources that allow students to develop in many directions, create original design products and think creatively. In this context, it can be considered that the use of interdisciplinary studies in terms of art and design education reveals the necessity of multidimensional development of students in terms of design. The research was carried out within the scope of exlibris design practices for the artists of Contemporary Art movements. In this study, Contemporary Art movements were used in the context of interdisciplinary art education to create resources for students' ex-libris designs in graphic design education. In the research, Impressionism, Post-Impressionism, Expressionism, Fauvism, Futurism, Cubism, Dadaism, Surrealism and Pop Art art movements from Contemporary Art movements were preferred by the students. The aim of the research is to reveal how ex-libris designs of important works belonging to Contemporary Art movements are interpreted by students on graphic design education. The research is limited to the 4th grade students who took Kastamonu University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Graphic Design Department 'Design Workshop VI' course in the spring semester of 2021-2022 academic year. In the research carried out within the scope of 24 students on a voluntary basis, the 'Action Research' method, one of the qualitative research methods, was used. By including 13 student studies in the research, student studies were examined in the context of graphic design and analyzed by interpreting them qualitatively in accordance with the design principles and elements from a descriptive point of view. As a result of the study, it was observed that students learned Contemporary Art movements in detail, they could consider art and design in an interdisciplinary context, they could abstract Contemporary Art works by simplifying them, they could create original ex-libris designs depicting artists in terms of graphic design in reference to artists related to Contemporary Art movements, and they contributed to their creative thinking.
