- Abstract
This paper presents the finite element analysis of glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP)-reinforced concrete beams. The research focuses on refining and validating concrete constitutive modelling within the commercial software ABAQUS. The accuracy of the proposed models is evaluated against a set of experimentally tested GFRP-reinforced concrete beams with, and without, GFRP shear reinforcement. The validated models are then used to conduct a parametric study on the influence of slenderness and shear reinforcement on the behaviour of GFRP-reinforced beams, the results of which are compared to the CSA S806-12 and ACI440.1R-15 design provisions. A discussion is provided on the effectiveness of the current design methods in predicting strength and failure modes of the GFRP-reinforced beams.
