- Abstract
The study aims to examine the relationship between the rate of mentorship of school principals working in public schools in Izmir and assistant principals' ability to determine school development needs. The study is based on a correlational survey model. The research population consists of 785 public schools located in the central districts of Izmir province, while the sample group consists of 320 schools and 358 assistant principals selected by random sampling. The scale named "Mentoring Functions" and "Determination of School Development Needs" were used in the research. Data analysis includes descriptive and correlational statistics. According to the findings of the study, the level of determination of the school improvement needs of assistant principals differed significantly according to the variables of school level and the number of students in their schools. It has been observed that the relationship between the total scores of assistant school principals' level of receiving mentoring services by school principals and all of the sub-dimensions of determining school improvement needs is positive. According to the results of the regression analysis, it was found that the education of deputy principals has a significant explanatory effect on the sub-dimensions of the ability of deputy principals to determine the improvement needs of their schools.
